The Best Way to Predict the Future is to Create It.

Here's an alt tag for the image: Lincoln quote: Create your future.

25,600 minutes. That is how many minutes are contained in one year. All of us get the same allotment of time each year. The question is “What will each of us do with that time?”

Time is a valuable, finite resource. Once a moment poses, it is lost forever. Will you spend your time wisely?

FOMO – or the “fear of missing out” — is a real thing. It pulls people toward new and different experiences that look like fun, but giving into FOMO often provides little value. Don’t let FOMO distract you and cause you to waste precious time

One of my favorite quotes comes from the movie “Kung Fu Panda.” Wise Master Oogway says “Yesterday is history and tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.”

How will your high school student and gap year children make use of their time as they prepare themselves to seek college admission or begin their undergraduate studies this fall?

Relaxing summer vacations spent with family and friends at the pool or the beach are examples of time well spent — if spent in moderation. Enjoying too much of a good thing means you are neglecting to devote sufficient time to some other important aspect of your life.

The fact is there is no time for “do overs” when it comes to wisely using your time. There is a famous proverb that says, “time and tide wait for no man.” Once time has passed, you can never recover it. So don’t waste it, especially when it comes to preparing for college and, more importantly, for the rest of your life.

It is said that one percent of the people in the world make things happen, nine percent watch things happen, and 90 percent say, “what happened?” Making smart use of your time will determine to which group you belong.

What is the best use of students’ time this summer? Learning things that will set you apart and ready to thrive in the days ahead. That is a valuable return on your investment of time.

As Coach Wooden recommended, do things right the first time. In this case, that means learning the necessary skills that will set you apart now and will keep you on the road to success for years to come. Don’t look back and think “I coulda, woulda, shoulda.” Avoid those excuses by making the right decision about the best way to spend your next 225,600 minutes.

Make each minute count. Abraham Lincoln understood the value of time when he said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Truer words have never been spoken.

Future Skills are not designed to only prepare bright students to get into the college of their dreams or excel in their collegiate studies, although they will certainly do that. Future Skills aim higher.

Learning Artificial Intelligence, Critical Thinking, Data Literacy, Empathy, Storytelling, and Design Thinking are just some of the 20 subjects taught in the Future Skills course offered by the Sagacity Institute. Those are skills that the one percent who make things happen will possess

Students who spend their time wisely will be able to take pride in what they have done. They will know that they saw the opportunity with Future Skills, made the most of it, and are on their way to creating their future. And they also will remember the wise parents who showed them the path to success.
