Never Give In
According to several studies, about 80 percent of all New Year’s resolutions fail by the the third Monday in January. In 2026, that means January 19 has earned the nickname Quitter’s Day.
At the Sagacity Institute, we reject that idea.
Don’t quit on your goals. Instead, double down on understanding how to achieve them.
More than 80 years ago, Winston Churchill offered a lesson that still resonates today:
“Never give in—never give in—never, never, never, in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”
Churchill was not advocating blind stubbornness. He was reminding us that endurance must be guided by judgment, honor, and good sense.
One of the fundamental lessons taught at the Sagacity Institute is not quitting thoughtlessly when adversity appears. Instead, students learn to assess the situation, diagnose the root cause of failure, and adapt their approach without abandoning the goal.
Obstacles become feedback. Stumbling blocks become stepping stones.
Aspirational goals are meaningless unless they are paired with clear objectives, disciplined execution, and the ability to adapt when conditions change. This is especially true when guiding high school and gap year students as they develop Future Skills. The stakes are simply too high for anything less.
We live in a results-driven world. Effort without reflection is not enough. Progress requires learning, adjustment, and sound judgment.
Persistence alone is not enough. What separates those who succeed from those who stall is the ability to adapt without abandoning purpose.
There is no Quitter’s Day when it comes to preparing students for the future. The Sagacity Institute teaches young people how to persist intelligently—using judgment, discipline, and Future Skills to turn adversity into progress.
